A hand-woven coiled basket bowl, attributed to the Akimel O'odham (Pima) or Tohono O'odham people of the Southwest United States. The vessel is constructed with a bundle foundation using split willow for the light ground and martynia, commonly known as devil's claw, for the dark decorative elements. The decoration features a repeating geometric motif of staggered rectangular blocks, often referred to as a stepped or brick pattern. This design originates from a solid dark circular start at the base and radiates outward across the exterior and interior walls.
