This 19th-century American stoneware bird fountain features a cylindrical reservoir body designed for wall mounting. The front face is recessed and features a central embossed relief of an eagle with its wings spread, perched upon a branch. Below the eagle is an integral semi-circular trough that allowed water to flow from the main reservoir. The reverse of the cylinder is flat, allowing it to be hung against a wall or fence. The piece is finished in a dark, high-gloss Rockingham-style lead glaze, showing a rich brown color with typical mottled tonal variations. No maker marks, signatures, or backstamps are visible on the exterior surfaces shown in the images.
