This antique American candle lantern is constructed from punched sheet iron with a residual tin coating. Often referred to as a Paul Revere style lantern, the piece features a cylindrical body and a conical top topped with a large circular metal ring handle. The front of the lantern contains a rectangular hinged door secured with a metal latch. The exterior surface is decorated with hand-punched geometric patterns including prominent starburst or sunburst motifs on the door and lower body, with additional circular and linear piercings throughout to allow light to escape while shielding the flame. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the object.
