A vintage promotional cast metal figural bookend or desk display produced for the Gruen Watch Company. The piece features a three-dimensional scene depicting a master watchmaker at a workbench positioned before a leaded-glass window, with an apprentice kneeling beside him. This imagery was central to the Gruen Watch Company Guild marketing campaign of the early 20th century, intended to associate modern production with traditional Swiss craftsmanship. The item is constructed of cast metal with a gold-toned finish and features a brown protective felt covering on the underside. The base is embossed with the text Guild GRUEN Watches.
