This hand-carved wooden pulley is a traditional functional object from South Asia, likely originally used as a component in a textile loom or as an architectural element for suspending lamps. The piece is crafted from a single block of dense hardwood and features a deep, aged dark brown patina. The upper portion is carved into a stylized zoomorphic form representing a bird, such as a hamsa or peacock, with an arched neck and incised linear patterns depicting feathers. A small circular hole is bored through the central vertical post to facilitate suspension. The lower section houses a functional pulley wheel, decorated on both faces with a deeply incised eight-petaled floral or sunburst motif resembling a stylized lotus. The wheel is grooved along its circumference to accommodate a cord or rope.
