A visually striking Native American beaded vest attributed to an Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) artist of the Great Lakes region, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Fashioned from black wool cloth, the vest is extensively decorated with brilliantly colored glass seed beads arranged in large-scale floral and foliate designs. Stylized blossoms in shades of pink, red, blue and yellow rice from sweeping turquoise and green leaves across the front. The reverse features a restrained, tree-like composition worked in pale blue, white and red beads with delicate yellow accents.The vest retains its red cloth edging and original black buttons. Its unusually bold coloration, balanced composition and extensive beadwork give it a particularly strong sculptural presence. Presented on a form, it becomes a remarkable piece of textile art suitable for display in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Attributed to the Ojibwe (Anishinaabe), Great Lakes region.
