This antique hand-thrown stoneware storage jar features a traditional form with a wide, slightly tapered body, rounded shoulder, and a short neck terminating in a thick, prominent collared rim. The vessel is finished in a multi-toned alkaline glaze exhibiting variations from dark chocolate brown to olive-green. A distinct darker band of glaze encircles the midsection of the jar. The surface displays characteristic traits of wood-firing, including a yellowish-tan fire flash near the base, glaze runs, and minor pitting. This jar design was typically used for preservation and intended to be sealed with a tin lid and wax. No maker marks, signatures, or capacity stamps are visible on the exterior.
