An antique European folk art treen box of oval form, featuring characteristics of traditional Scandinavian tine construction. The box is fashioned from dark-patinated wood and is decorated with hand-carved and pierced motifs throughout the exterior walls. These decorations include a series of quatrefoils and circular rosettes arranged in a patterned grid, through which a blue interior lining is visible. The rear side of the box utilizes interlocking finger-joint or lapped construction. The removable lid is surmounted by a small, textured textile pull tab. No maker marks or signatures are present.
