This vintage straight razor is manufactured by Luke Oates and Company of Sheffield, England. The carbon steel blade is attached to translucent amber-colored scales, which are likely made of honey horn or celluloid. The tang bears a stamped mark featuring a small cross above the name OATES. One handle scale is embossed with the decorative script THE EXCELSIOR. The scales are fastened with metal pivot and spacer pins that feature ornate, embossed metal caps. The blade is a single-edged folding type with a traditional monkey tail tang for grip.
