An Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) fluid or whale oil lamp, dating to approximately 1850 to 1870. The piece features the Heart and Diamond Point pattern and is attributed to the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. Crafted from clear, colorless pressed flint glass, the font is decorated with large embossed hearts containing a fine diamond-point grid. The font is mounted on a fluted, waisted pedestal stem that terminates in a heavy, stepped hexagonal base. The top of the font is fitted with a simple brass collar intended to hold a burner assembly, which is not present. The clarity and brilliance of the glass are indicative of mid-19th-century flint glass manufacturing.
