An extraordinary and monumental Cherokee rivercane basket by master weaver Rowena Bradley (1922–2003) — one of the most celebrated basket makers of the 20th century. This exceptional example features a perfectly proportioned square form with tightly fitted lid, woven in bold zig-zag “peace pipe” pattern in natural, dark brown, and golden-dyed cane. Measuring an impressive 14 inches tall, this is among the largest Rowena Bradley baskets known and quite possibly the largest example currently available on the market. Bradley, a National Heritage Fellow, was renowned for preserving and teaching the ancient double-weave and traditional patterns of the Cherokee. Her work is represented in major museum collections, including the Smithsonian Institution. This basket survives in excellent condition, with strong color retention and no losses. Its commanding size, impeccable craftsmanship, and perfect lid fit make it a centerpiece-worthy example for advanced collectors. Museum-caliber baskets of this scale and quality by Rowena Bradley rarely appear on the open market, making this an important and highly desirable acquisition opportunity.
