This is an antique lithographed tin container for Patterson's Seal Cut Plug tobacco, manufactured by the R.A. Patterson Tobacco Co. of Richmond, Virginia. The tin is designed in the form of a miniature steamer or traveling trunk. The lithography features a faux-wood grain pattern accented by black vertical straps with simulated rivets and corner brackets. The front panel contains a central horizontal band with the text PATTERSON'S and SEAL in quotation marks, with CUT PLUG positioned below. A circular seal graphic is featured in the center, depicting an illustration of a seal animal surrounded by the text R. A. PATTERSON TOBACCO CO. RICHMOND, VA. and ESTABLISHED 1856 FULL WEIGHT. The tin has a rectangular form with a hinged lid and a metallic interior.
