This exceptional Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver represents an unusually well-preserved example of one of Samuel Colt’s most successful 19th-century designs. Manufactured in 1855 and bearing serial number 100683, this .31 caliber percussion revolver retains all matching serial numbers and is fitted with a 4-inch barrel. The revolver descends directly from the original Texas family, adding meaningful historical continuity to its already strong physical presence. What most distinguishes this example is its remarkable state of preservation. The cylinder retains a clearly visible and sharply defined stagecoach scene, a feature that is frequently weak or entirely lost on most surviving examples. Additionally, the revolver exhibits a notable and well-above-average retention of original bluing and nickel plating, with surfaces that remain crisp, even, and entirely honest. There is no evidence of later polishing or refinishing, and the metal presents with the kind of natural patina only achieved through careful, long-term stewardship. The revolver is housed in what appears to be its original fitted mahogany case, containing a fine group of accessories, including a bullet mold marked COLT. The case interior shows appropriate age and use, while the exterior retains an attractive surface with light handling wear, consistent with originality. The completeness of the set significantly enhances both its historical interest and collector desirability. The Colt 1849 Pocket Model was widely carried during the antebellum period and into the years leading up to the Civil War, yet cased examples of this caliber — with strong original finish, intact cylinder scene, matching numbers, and family descent — are increasingly rare. This revolver stands out not only as a fine historical artifact, but as a benchmark-quality example within the category. Dimensions: 4-inch barrel length Condition: Exceptional overall condition with unusually strong retention of original bluing and nickel plating, a clear and well-preserved cylinder scene, and only light, age-appropriate wear Provenance: Descended directly from the original Texas family
