A hand-carved mahogany wood figure depicting the Ponce Monolith from the Tiwanaku culture of the Bolivian Andes. The columnar sculpture is rendered with a stylized anthropomorphic figure wearing a flat-topped rectangular headdress embellished with incised geometric cross-hatching and horizontal bands. The face features rectangular eyes and a prominent triangular nose. The arms are bent at the elbows with hands held together at the center of the chest. The lower section of the body is decorated with repeating incised motifs including X patterns and horizontal bands. The reverse features geometric carvings, notably a central rectangular design with stepped motifs. The piece is carved from a single block of dark wood with a polished finish.
