This vintage Ex-Ray utility sun hat is constructed from heavyweight olive green cotton canvas. The design features a multi-panel soft conical crown and a wide brim finished with tan fabric binding. A signature feature of this model is the semi-transparent dark green plastic visor insert integrated into one section of the brim, designed to reduce glare. The interior is finished with a tan fabric sweatband. A white fabric label is stitched to the interior, printed with the text: EX-RAY, U. S. Patent Nos. 1,673,859, 1,763,549, UNION MADE. A separate small tag indicates the size as SMALL. The patent numbers correspond to visor and hat designs granted to J.W. Landenberger in 1928 and 1930.
