This vintage industrial-style service pitcher or water can is marked for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P & O). The vessel is constructed of metal finished with a light blue enamel coating. It features a cylindrical body with a fixed overhead bail handle and a secondary loop handle on the back to facilitate controlled pouring. The top is fitted with a partially hinged lid that includes a small semi-circular grab handle. The spout is tapered and angled upward from the side of the body. The P & O marking is located on the lower section of the body, rendered in a dark serif font. This type of utility piece was standard equipment for mess or general service aboard the vessels of the P & O shipping line.
