This mid-19th-century stoneware bottle features a cylindrical body tapering to a sloped shoulder and a short neck finished with an applied tapered collar, a form often referred to as a blob top. The vessel is crafted from salt-glazed stoneware, displaying a characteristic orange-peel surface texture and a mottled tan-to-buff clay body with natural iron spotting. The shoulder is decorated with a hand-brushed cobalt blue slip script reading Post. followed by a terminal dot. Based on regional stoneware research and visual consensus from specialized auction records, this script is attributed to Peter Post, a merchant and bottler active in Poughkeepsie, New York, during the mid-1800s. Such bottles were typically used for liquids such as ginger beer, ale, or mineral water. The piece exhibits various surface discolorations and dark patches typical of the wood-firing process used in 19th-century stoneware production.
