This is a vintage mid-20th-century American uniform peaked cap, commonly utilized by railroad conductors, postal workers, or municipal transit employees for summer service. The item was manufactured by A. G. Meier and Co. of Chicago, Illinois, as indicated by the gold-stamped manufacturer's mark on the interior crown lining. The cap is constructed with a dark fabric flat-top crown and a wide, open-weave mesh ventilated band designed for airflow in warm weather. It features a stiffened black visor with a lacquered finish. The interior is lined with black fabric and contains a brown leather sweatband under a clear plastic crown protector. A small red circular union label is present near the crown mark. A small gold circular sticker with the handwritten characters WSM 182 is attached to the interior protector. The cap is currently missing a front insignia or badge and does not have a chin strap or side buttons attached.
