A cylindrical stoneware crock featuring a creamy Bristol-glazed finish. The vessel is decorated with two horizontal cobalt blue bands, one situated below the rolled rim and another just above the base. The front is marked with a cobalt blue stencil that reads COMPLIMENTS OF SCHWAB & SCHWARZ MIDDLETON, WIS. This type of stoneware was typically produced as a promotional item for local merchants during the late 19th to early 20th century. The crock has a flat, unglazed base showing prominent concentric wire-cut marks from the manufacturing process. No capacity marks or manufacturer stamps are visible on the exterior or base.
