A mid-to-late 19th-century American salt-glazed stoneware jug of semi-ovoid beehive form. The piece features a narrow, slightly flared rim and a single pulled strap handle attached at the neck and shoulder. The front of the jug is ornamented with a large slip-trailed cobalt blue motif, which appears to be a stylized butterfly or floral design. The vessel shows a typical salt-glaze finish with a light orange peel texture and scattered iron spotting. The base exhibits circular wire-cut marks indicating it was removed from a potter's wheel. No impressed maker's marks or capacity indicators are present on the exterior. The form and decorative technique are characteristic of stoneware produced in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States.
