This is an antique wall-hanging advertising thermometer produced for Colburn's Mustard of Philadelphia. The piece features a translucent, molded celluloid front panel with decorative scalloped edges. This panel is mounted onto a rectangular wooden base covered in deep red velvet. The top of the celluloid face is printed with the text COLBURN'S PHILADELPHIA MUSTARD in black. A central glass thermometer tube contains a red-dyed liquid and is secured to the face with two brass-toned metal fasteners featuring star-shaped heads. The temperature scale on the left ranges from -20 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The right side of the tube features descriptive temperature markers including FEVER HEAT, BLOOD HEAT, SUMMR HEAT, TEMPE RATE, FREEZ ING, and ZERO. Text at the bottom right corner reads MANU'D BY THE BURN. The reverse of the object shows the unfinished wooden core and the metal tacks used to secure the velvet fabric. A small metal loop is attached to the top for hanging.
