This is an antique hand-painted sign for a local chapter of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.). The rectangular sign is constructed from a heavy painted composition board or fiberboard. The front displays the text Elks Home PRIVATE in two rows using a bold black serif font accented with thin orange and gold-toned outlines against a cream-colored ground. The reverse side features a large, partially faded orange trademark stamp. This official seal includes a circular border with the letters B. P. O. E. at the top, an illustration of an elk head in the center, and the words TRADE MARK at the bottom. The sign includes four small mounting holes, one located at each corner. A modern adhesive price tag is attached to the upper right corner of the reverse.
