This antique fluid lamp is constructed from cast and turned pewter, designed for use with whale oil. The lamp features a tapered bucket-style font resting on a baluster-turned stem, which terminates in a weighted, flared circular base. The burner is a classic double-wick configuration, a design intended to increase light output by positioning two flames in close proximity. The underside of the base contains a faint stamped mark in a small rectangular reserve, possibly the letters H B, although the mark is heavily worn and not definitively identifiable. This style is characteristic of late Georgian or Federal period lighting from the late 18th to early 19th century.
