A hand-carved wooden scoop or ladle, also known as treen, fashioned from a single piece of dark hardwood, possibly maple or birch. The object features a wide, shallow, circular bowl set at a pronounced, near 90-degree angle to a flat handle. This specific construction indicates the piece was carved from a natural crook or bend in a tree limb, allowing the wood grain to follow the curve of the tool for maximum strength. The handle tapers slightly from the bowl before flaring into a rounded, paddle-like terminal. The wood displays a deep, mellowed patina consistent with historical domestic use. While the form is highly utilitarian and typical of 18th or 19th-century folk-art kitchenware, it shares stylistic characteristics with Native American feast ladles from the Great Lakes region. No visible maker's marks, stamps, or signatures were found upon inspection.
