This antique wooden cheese press is of a bench-top form, constructed from solid hardwood with a dark, aged patina. The structure consists of a thick rectangular base and a top board joined by two wide vertical side supports. The pressure mechanism utilizes four upright posts that protrude through the top board, each containing a mortised slot for the insertion of wooden tensioning wedges. One wooden cross-pin wedge is present. The interior pressing surfaces are deeply incised with decorative motifs intended to emboss patterns into the finished product. The base board features a large stylized heart and foliate motif. The rear interior vertical panel is carved with a circular seal containing a grid pattern and reverse-carved letters including R and A. Additional reverse-carved characters including B, E, and V are visible to the left of the seal. The device is supported by two transverse wooden cleats attached to the underside of the base.
