An early 20th-century mechanical registering savings bank attributed to the Chas. W. Shonk Co. of Chicago, Illinois. The item is constructed of lithographed tin and features a step-back architectural form. The exterior is decorated with a green mottled onyx-style pattern, accented by gold-tone Art Nouveau scrollwork, eagle-and-shield borders, and central medallions on the side panels. The front panel is marked The HOME FIVE COIN SAVINGS BANK and includes three register windows currently displaying 000. The top panel features a single coin slot labeled for PENNIES - NICKELS - DIMES QUARTERS & HALVES along with a vertical metal lever designed to advance the internal registering mechanism. The base is finished in black paint and retains its original sliding metal access door for coin retrieval.
