This 19th-century Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) wall pocket is an example of the souvenir art produced for the Niagara Falls tourist trade. The piece is constructed on a dark cloth ground and features two decorative panels utilizing the raised beadwork technique. Each panel depicts a bird in flight carrying a foliate branch, rendered in white and translucent glass beads. Accents are provided by blue, pink, and green glass seed beads, with radiating clear glass bugle beads surrounding the central bird motifs. The pocket is framed with white seed bead borders and finished with a red ribbon binding along the outer edges. The construction is characteristic of Victorian-era indigenous beadwork intended for decorative domestic use.
