A large twin handled porcelain vase produced in the Japanese Satsuma style, decorated with a combination of Eastern motifs and Western pastoral scenes. The vase features an ovoid body with a waisted neck and a flaring rim, supported by a pedestal foot. Two prominent, ornate gilded scroll handles are attached at the shoulder and neck. The body is decorated with two large lobed reserve panels. One panel depicts two women in 18th century European dress seated in a landscape, with one figure playing a lute while a small dog rests nearby. The opposite panel shows a group of figures in similar period attire within a garden setting near a body of water. The ground surrounding these panels is densely decorated with a millefleurs pattern consisting of various floral sprays and butterflies. Blue geometric fretwork borders are applied at the neck, shoulder, and base. The decoration is executed in hand painted overglaze enamels with extensive gilding to the handles, rim, and panel borders. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces shown.
