A ceremonial labor union ribbon and badge for the Journeymen Stone Cutters Association of North America, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is constructed with a large blue silk ribbon base featuring gold-stamped lettering. At the top is a decorative gilt-metal bar with a cream-colored insert bearing the text GENERAL UNION in blue. Pinned below the header is a smaller yellow silk ribbon panel featuring crossed embroidered flags: the United States Stars and Stripes and the Canadian Red Ensign, signifying the international scope of the organization. A miniature metal stone-cutter chisel tool is pinned horizontally across the top of the yellow panel. A central circular celluloid medallion is affixed to the blue ribbon. The medallion features an inner seal with stone-cutting tools including a square, compasses, and hammers, surmounted by a red Phrygian cap. The seal is encircled by the text: IN UNION THERE IS STRENGTH / ORGANIZED DEC. 5, 1854 / JUSTICE TO ALL. The lower portion of the blue ribbon is printed with gilt-blocked lettering: JOURNEYMEN / STONE CUTTERS / ASSOCIATION / OF / NORTH AMERICA. The bottom of the ribbon is finished with a heavy gold-colored metallic thread fringe.
