This lot features a pair of miniature Native American style souvenir moccasins attached to a printed red cardstock mailing tag from Meramec Caverns in Stanton, Missouri. The tag served as a souvenir mailer and is postally used, featuring a purple 3-cent Thomas Jefferson United States postage stamp from the Series of 1938. A circular ink postmark from Stanton, Missouri, is partially visible over the stamp. The front of the tag is printed with Greetings From Meramec Caverns Stanton, Mo. and contains a handwritten pencil address to Miss Barb Rich, City Hall, Rock Island, Illinois. The circular tag hole reinforcer is printed with U.S.A. Dennison and the left edge carries the manufacturer mark Inc., Mpls. The accompanying miniature moccasins are constructed from two-tone leather, including a dark brown textured upper and a light tan suede-like toe. The footwear is decorated with small glass seed beads in red, blue, black, and white arranged in a cross-shaped pattern on the toe box. Hand-stitched detailing is present around the perimeter of the toe and the heel. The shoes remain attached to the tag by the original white twine string.
