This salt-glazed stoneware jug features a classic ovoid form tapering to a narrow, collared rim and a flared base. An applied strap handle is attached at the neck and shoulder. The shoulder is impressed with the maker's mark I. SEYMOUR / TROY in two lines, followed by a stamped numeral 3 indicating its three-gallon capacity. Both the maker's mark and the capacity stamp are highlighted with cobalt blue slip. The front of the vessel is further embellished with a hand-painted cobalt blue slip flourish or floral spray. Produced in Troy, New York, this piece is characteristic of the regional stoneware production from the mid-19th century. Capacity: 3 Gallons.
