This two-gallon salt-glazed stoneware jug features a semi-ovoid beehive form with a rounded shoulder, a short, slightly flared neck, and an applied strap handle. The front of the vessel is decorated with a large, slip-trailed cobalt blue foliate or floral spray. The design consists of multiple scrolling elements radiating from a central point, finished with a decorative squiggle at the base. Above the cobalt decoration, the numeral 2 is incised into the clay to indicate the capacity. No manufacturer stamps or location markings are visible on the exterior of the piece. The jug is finished with a characteristic salt glaze, exhibiting some kiln-related imperfections including pitting and small iron spots. Capacity: 2 gallons.
