This two-gallon salt-glazed stoneware crock features the impressed maker's mark for Whites' Pottery of Utica, New York. The cylindrical vessel is constructed with a slightly flared rim and two applied horizontal lug handles. The front is decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt blue motif depicting a stylized leaf or fern frond. Above this decoration is an impressed numeral 2 denoting capacity, positioned over the impressed mark WHITES' UTICA, both of which are highlighted with cobalt blue.
