A vintage municipal service badge issued for the Kansas City, Missouri, Water Works department. The badge is constructed of die-stamped base metal with a silver-toned plating. The design is shield-shaped, surmounted by a spread-wing eagle atop an ornate scrollwork border. The central circular medallion features a beaded border and contains the embossed identification number 5, with the words VALVE and HYDRANT above and below it respectively. The outer border is embossed with the text KANSAS CITY WATER WORKS, while a small shield at the base contains the abbreviation MO. The reverse of the badge is unfinished, showing the base metal, and is fitted with a horizontal pin-back clasp mechanism.
