A North American Plains Indian beaded leather turtle fetish constructed from tan suede. The dorsal surface is decorated with glass seed beads applied in a lane-stitch technique, featuring alternating bands of white and orange beads. The perimeter is finished with a dark brown beaded border. Two small blue glass beads are positioned on the head to represent eyes. The four limbs consist of suede loops, each accented with a white disc bead composed of shell or bone. The underside is plain suede with visible hand-stitching and a small metal safety pin attached near the head for display. This form is traditionally used in Plains cultures as an umbilical cord fetish or protective amulet.
