A Sioux beaded buckskin umbilical cord amulet, also referred to as a fetish, fashioned in the form of a turtle. The dorsal surface is densely decorated with glass seed beads featuring a primary yellow field. This central field is accented with transverse geometric bands in green, white, and red, all contained within a blue beaded perimeter. The head is detailed with concentric tiers of blue, red, and white beads. The four legs are represented by large, polychrome glass trade beads attached with leather thongs. The underside is constructed from brain-tanned leather. A vintage metal safety pin is affixed to the posterior end for suspension or attachment. This object is a traditional symbol of protection and longevity.
