A Sioux Native American beaded hide buffalo effigy, likely intended as an umbilical cord fetish or protective amulet. The piece is constructed from two panels of soft brown suede hide, stuffed to create a three-dimensional form. The front face is decorated with polychrome glass seed beads applied in the lazy stitch technique. The design features a white field populated with geometric symbols, notably two green and yellow crosses with red centers. Dark blue triangular motifs with interior red, green, and yellow patterns define the buffalo's hump and belly. The tail is embellished with alternating bands of red and green beads, and a red bead represents the eye. A leather thong with two yellow-painted wooden beads is suspended from the bottom. The reverse reveals the plain sueded hide and a contemporary metal safety pin for attachment.
