A rectangular gasoline pump warning sign of the type used in the United States between the 1920s and the 1970s. This piece was designed to be mounted on a fuel dispenser to warn customers of tetraethyl lead additives. The sign features black block lettering fired onto a white background. The text reads: FOR USE AS A MOTOR FUEL ONLY CONTAINS LEAD (TETRAETHYL). The word LEAD is emphasized in a larger, bold font. The reverse side is finished in a thick black enamel and bears a small, illegible gold-toned circular label in the upper right corner. The sign is constructed with four mounting holes reinforced with metal grommets.
